THARPARKAR: The situation in the desert district of Tharparkar still remains quite alarming as children continue to die of starvation and malnutrition especially in the remote areas where no relief team has yet arrived, Geo News reported.

The hapless people losing all hopes for any messiah coming towards their hutments have now marched towards Mithi, the headquarters of both the government and private relief teams, while those from far-lung areas who cannot afford to travel up to Mithi waiting in vain for any relief to come.

The slow pace of relief work and distribution of wheat by the government have fallen far short of the urgency and speed required for saving the children from death for lack of food and medicine.

Hospitals are overcrowded but no alternate arrangements have been made to accommodate the patients.
According to reports pouring in from the affected district, only 900 bags of flour could be distributed in Tharparkar out of 47,000 bags sent for the drought-affected population.
Chachro is among those areas of Tharparkar where the Sindh Government hasn’t started its relief operation.
Several prominent members of the Sindh government have visited the famine-hit areas but relief activities are still facing delay due to which the affected people have been forced to move to other places.
Pak Army and different political and religious parties relief camps have been set up to provide food and medicine to the suffering humanity of Tharparkar.
